Can playing piano by ear be taught? ...
I began taking piano lessons when I ways eight years old. I still remember my first lesson!!! It was bliss!
I sang in choir during my elementary years and learned solfege and the concept of movable "do".
When I was an early teen, I began playing chord charts for the worship team. It was a TOTALLY different world than classical sheet music!
I learned about the circle of fifths around this same time, and EVERYTHING came together! I could hear a melody using solfege, understand continuous rhythm from worship team experience, and know exactly which chords to use from the circle of fifths...
... I was playing by ear! ...
I began teaching piano at age 16, and have taught over 200 students classical piano / chords / playing by ear.
I share a lot more pieces of this story through my podcast and emails, but I wholeheartedly believe anyone can learn to play by ear using the same methods.
