Piano should be fun, relaxing and energizing - an expression of the soul.

Hi, I'm Morgan Showalter
Creator of "Melodies with Morgan"
This is my Story...
I remember my very first piano lesson. Eight years old on a crisp December morning, I peeked out the front door curtains. My soon to be piano teacher had come by our house to drop off my new piano books to my mom so she could wrap them into a Christmas present. "Must be the cat lady," I thought, since we had recently gotten kittens. (I specifically remember thinking this, though, looking back that logic doesn't compute fluidly.)
Christmas arrived, and I was STOKED. I had already been tinkering around with the ivory keys for a whole year leading up to receiving lessons. Needless to say, I never had to be told to practice. Piano was my go-to, my escape, my dreamland, and every new song was a two-way challenge to conquer: first rhythmically, and second musically. Upon finishing a piece, I would go right back to measure one to play it again... and again.
I whizzed through the Faber piano books, and by age 14 was wanting to play chords on the worship team. It was at this time, that three things coincided together: the circle of 5ths (from Faber level 5,) movable "do" (from choir,) and how chords and inversions work with keys and scales to guide and harmonize a melody (from worship team.)
Something clicked!
I like to call this the "lightbulb moment" on my podcast. I understood piano theory in a functional way! I was playing by ear, and understanding how I was doing it!
"If only these three concepts could be replicated," I had thought, "there would be worlds of people enjoying how to play by ear" - something that has not been traditionally taught. (But secretly, I think Chopin, Bach, and Beethoven knew exactly how all these concepts worked together. Their music is proof.)
I felt a deep calling to create those recourses. Since that time, I've taught over a decade of private and group piano lessons to hundreds of students, produced original piano music, and have created the first (of four) courses that I believe will help others achieve freedom and success in music.
Every resourse on this website is something I wish I would have had when I was learning those same concepts. I deeply believe in this calling with all my heart.
One last word I'd like to say... I think every musician has their share of challenges that they do, or don't, speak of. Some of the most amazing and encouraging pianists I have ever met have overcome horrendous difficulties. If you'd like to hear me open up about some personal stories, I'd encourage you to check out my podcast: Melodies with Morgan. It is only by God's grace that I make music today, and I give Him all the glory.
